Shojin Ryori Kakusho was established as a restaurant in the late Edo period. It is one of the oldest restaurants in the Gifu Prefecture, with 200 years of history. An elegant building and garden, both of which have been appointed cultural treasures of Takayama. In addition to a hall in the main building within the approximately 400 tsubo premises, there is a tea room in the garden and several sitting rooms. You can admire the room decor and the garden in all four seasons within this tranquil atmosphere as you enjoy your meal. Meals are based on Shojin ryori, prepared to focus on vegetables without any fish or meat products. Shojin ryori was known as a diet consumed at Buddhist services for many years, but in recent years has gained traction as part of the healthy slow food movement.
